You can typically see many Australians out on the weekends busily washing and waxing their vehicles in their drives or on the public street. We treat our vehicles like an extended member of the family and Australians have been known to give their cars a name as well. This is perfectly normal and everyone does it all around the world. It makes sense that you would want to protect the second biggest investment that you will make in your life. However, many overlook the importance of protecting the interior of the car and even though it might look good from the outside, there are some smelly cars on the road.

It’s time to start beginning to take better care of the interior of your car and it begins with investing in car window covers to protect your seats, the carpets and the dash from harmful UV rays. We get our share of the sun here in Australia and so this is money very well spent. This is just the beginning and the following are some other ways to make the interior of your vehicle look and smell good.

• Wheel out the vacuum cleaner – This isn’t just a device to keep the carpets inside your home clean and fresh. You can use it for the interior of your car and try to get right down between the car seats where all sorts of dirt and dust accumulate. Give the carpets at least a quick once over once a week and don’t forget about the back seat as well. 

• Talk to your kids – Much like your home, your kids treat it like it like a playground and this applies to the inside of your car. You need to draw a line in the sand and set some ‘in the car rules.’ If you can’t ban sweets and snacks then insist that they take their trash with them when they leave the vehicle and put it in any available bin. Don’t let them climb over the seats and drinks are definitely not allowed inside.

• Get it professionally cleaned – You probably remember the new car smell from when you first bought your car and it’s possible to get that back if you take your car to the right people. They do an incredibly professional job and they have the equipment and the know-how to get your carpets, the seats, the roof and dash looking amazing again and smelling fantastic. It is a bit of money to spend but if you take better care of the interior of your vehicle then you can get a better price when you decide to sell it further down the road.

These are just some ways to take better care of the interior of your car and there are others. Hang an air freshener from the rearview mirror and remember to replace it once in a while. Always discard the old one and don’t just let it hang there forever.
